Self confidence is true style

Last week I teamed up with a phenomenal group of people where I styled and directed a photoshoot. The models were young adults, not professional models, and they were excited but also incredibly doubtful of their ability to model the clothes and nervous in front of a camera.

Part of this project was to help them build self confidence and develop their own identity and style. This came about through the supportive environment we created, understanding the individual and communicating with them. Watching these young adults thrive as the day went on was delightful. Comments such as ‘ these clothes are so me I feel really comfortable in them’, ‘ I love the way my style has evolved today and I feel really happy with how I look’ to ‘I may as well have a go’ - cue totally ‘bossing it ‘ in front of the camera.

Young adults have insecurities, a heightened awareness and pressure of how they look through the constant pressures and judgements of social media.

To be able to provide a space and support where these young adults could develop and identify their own style and authentic self was wonderful. You’ll notice how diverse the styling was - this is in fitting with their individuality.

Big shout out to the phenomenal talent that is Marie Nieuwoudt. What a force of power and talent this amazing lady is. We’ve worked together on many shoots in the past and it is always a joyful, efficient, creative and productive process.
